Robert Schumann’s ‘new path’ was fulfilled in a new genre of choral music for the concert hall – epic, dramatic, delicately coloured theatre pieces, large and miniature.
The choir will sing the Mass Op 147, some of the Requiem Op 148, plus Requiem for Mignon and a selection of accompanied and a cappella part songs. ‘Poetic music fusion, exceptional in lyricism and melting in harmony’ best describes these works.
Clara Schumann’s birthday gift of Three Choruses, 1848, confirms the song of love that anchored their lives.
