The essence of all art is having pleasure giving pleasure

Members of the Melbourne Chamber Choir and the Melbourne Women’s Choir present their concert series for 2011.

My song in the night

In a mix of sacred anthems and prayers, secular pictures and dreams of the night, the Melbourne Women’s Choir will present an imaginative and gentle concert leaving a memory of soft loveliness. Heart’s ease!

Song of love – Robert and Clara Schumann

The choral music of Robert Schumann is rarely heard in Melbourne, and yet it was a significant output in the last years of his life – his innovations providing both model and inspiration to Liszt and Brahms. Schumann conducted a city choir in Dusseldorf, and he set up another choir especially to perform his church, concert and drawing-room music. The Melbourne Chamber Choir will present some from each of these genres. Clara Schumann’s birthday gift of Three Choruses was so liked by Robert that he proudly programmed them, as will we!

Carols in the chapel

The ambience of Trinity College chapel will add magic to the Christmas concert of the Melbourne Women’s Choir and will send all into Christmas with a song in the heart.
The choir will sing from behind, beside and before the audience in a mix of carols old and new, with some favourites for audience singing.

A Britten Christmas

Benjamin Britten’s writing for the voice is a gift to singers. Unique and beautiful sounds will first be heard in the colourful A Boy Was Born, in which the Melbourne Women’s Choir will provide the treble chorus. The colours of the harp will accompany the always loved A Ceremony of Carols.
